Projects

Nature of projects in Ecuador and Uganda

The initial approach was the same in both countries:-

The anchor identified the potential schools in each country, developed a project team and with that team elaborated a project proposal. Each was based on identifying a “Resource” school and one or more “Partner” schools, and covered a 3 year period (2019-2022).

Integral to this first phase was to allow each team to identify the most appropriate approach and to develop a budget that would best support that approach – important to build local commitment and to best use available resources and experience. The budget and project plans were approved by Drs. Brooks and Marshall on behalf of the Foundation (which subsequently allowed the project to proceed without any further intervention).

In Ecuador the Resource school XX is in the outskirts of Quito and the 3 Partner schools (AA, BB, CC) in a predominantly indigenous community (Moncayo County) about 60km distant. The approach developed by the project team (Pato & Rita) was to invest in the training of teachers to better meet the educational needs of the Partner schools and to further invest in materials and infrastructure allow the enhanced teaching methods to be effectively used.

In Uganda (which is less-developed that Ecuador) the schools identified were both Catholic Girls secondary Schools located in Mbarara Archdiocese in Western Uganda, about 50km apart; Maryhill Girls school in Mbarara is the “Resource” school, Rushanje Girls Secondary School the “Partner” school.. The project team proposed funding the introduction of a number of “skills” subjects into the Partner school to complement the academic curriculum.
