Evolution of the project

2019-2022: With the support of Maryhill a range of “skills” subjects were introduced in Rushanje, initially tailoring, baking and farming, later hairdressing.

In 2020 students in these courses registered for DIT certification and gained certificates that show competence. These subjects are now taught as part of the regular curriculum, but still supported financially through the TSP.

2023 to date: the enrolment in Rushanje School had increased to nearly 300 and with the building of a new dormitory that will hold 200 students it is probable that by the end of 2025 the capacity of 350 will have been reached.

This level should provide sufficient fees to fully integrate the skills subjects into the curriculum without additional funding from the project, making the investment self-sustaining by the end of 2025. The robotics module will be introduced in Maryhill during 2024 and subsequently into Rushanje with the support of Maryhill teachers.
